crissit (CrissIT), a company specializing in generative artificial intelligence (AI), announced that it has won the ‘Digitalization of aviation regulations using generative AI and gap analysis between domestic and international regulations (PoC)’ project run by the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology.

The project is a proof of concept that builds International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and Korean aviation safety legislation into digital data, then uses generative AI to analyze the differences and unreflected items between domestic and international regulations. It aims to improve the efficiency of aviation safety regulatory review and to establish a framework for responding to changes in international standards.

Aviation is a representative regulated industry, operating on ICAO standards together with national laws and guidelines. As international standards continue to be revised, the burden of managing and analyzing a vast body of regulations and documents keeps growing.

For this project crissit is applying ‘Prixm AI’, the generative AI platform it developed in-house. Prixm AI structures unstructured documents such as regulations, manuals and research materials, analyzes the relationships between documents, and surfaces the information users need.

The company plans to implement functions that support regulation-based work, including clause-by-clause comparison, change analysis and verification of supporting evidence.

As the use of generative AI widens, AI-based work support is appearing in more fields that handle specialist knowledge such as regulations and technical documents. The industry expects adoption to grow across regulated sectors including aviation, biotechnology, energy and chemicals.

crissit has carried out generative AI projects including the Korea Cosmetic Industry Institute's AI-powered integrated export information platform, a chemical safety data platform, and R&D support systems. The company plans to use this project to extend its business into aviation safety.

Jongjin Park, CEO of crissit, said: “Accuracy and reliability matter a great deal in aviation safety, so AI is likewise held to a high standard of expertise and verifiability. We will keep advancing our service so that generative AI technology can improve the efficiency of regulation-based work.”
